Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney suffered a deep leg gash after colliding with Fulham player Hugo Rodallega on Aug. 25. Sky Sports is reporting via its official twitter account Rooney will miss four weeks of action:
The Guardian's Jamie Jackson did not speak to the length of time Rooney could miss, but did speak with Sir Alex Ferguson after the game, tweeting:
BBC Sports also spoke with the United manager after his team's 3-2 victory, stating that he concurs with Sky Sports' timetable:
Wayne Rooney's been whisked off to hospital immediately and it looks a bad one. I think he could be out for four weeks with a bad gash.
Rooney did not start against Fulham, with Ferguson giving Robin van Persie the start in the fixture. Rooney was substituted into the match however, sustaining the cut during the last few moments of the contest.
Due to the injury, the 26-year-old striker will have just one start on his resume until he returns to the pitch. He started United's first game of the season, which resulted in a 1-0 loss to Everton.
If the reported timetable proves to be accurate, Rooney will miss United's upcoming games against Southampton, Wigan, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. Essentially, the veteran Red Devil would miss all of his team's September fixtures.
Rooney could return in United's first October fixture if all goes according to plan, meaning the team's seventh all-time scorer might make his return against Newcastle United on Oct. 7.
